*** This section will contain week-specific information. *** Come join our highly-social, evening, trail ride that has been a Spring, Summer and Fall tradition since August, 2015, always rolling at the speed-of-fun. :-) We ride as a team and enthusiastically encourage communication, conversation and laughter - as long as riders prescribe to safe practices such as: communicating about obstacles and maintaining gaps that are appropriate for the speed, terrain and weather conditions. Your bike must have a headlight and tail light. Avoid using retina-burning, overly-bright and strobing lights since we ride trails as a pack and are usually separated from car and truck traffic. We courteously move to the right and try to douse headlights when passing pedestrians and fellow riders as we ride into growing darkness. History has shown that this ride can be done with most any kind of bike, but sometimes conditions can make it tough for very narrow tires. You be the judge. No rider will ever be left behind. We have several bona fide EBC Ride Leaders attending this ride for extra safety. ...But you must make sure that your bike is ready and you are in athletic condition for this distance and pace. Note that 10-12 mph on a trail may take the same effort as 13-16 mph on a road; ...and riding a heavy, fat or mountain bike requires yet additional effort. E-bikes are welcome. Our routes vary from one week to the next. Look for week-specific route information on our e-mail list server a day or so before the ride. Let‘s rock!

9:00AM start. Watch for cancellation or adjusted start time if conditions are wet. We may push the pace or sprint at times, but my intention is to keep the group together with many of us in early season shape. I expect to do the Munger Loop (51 miles), but feel free to head into Panera at your option if you‘re still building endurance. No one will be dropped. Join me for a road ride from Lombard to St. Charles. Our midpoint rest stop will be at Panera in St. Charles. I expect to maintain the upper end of the posted rolling speed, with optional sprints. We will face some hills, rollers, and open road with narrow shoulders, so a road bike and some road riding experience is highly recommended. Ample regroup opportunities. No one will be dropped. Please don‘t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/43898989

The Bluebells are at their spectacular peak bloom at Starved Rock Illinois Canyon. I’ve been checking on them all month. Not going to be around much longer and weekends are too crowded. Water levels high .Family friendly first mile or two. For children and grandchildren are welcome . First two miles will be ant slow easy picturesque taking pace. After the first two miles of the actual bluebell area we will be doing additionalat least 6 miles at faster pace. Need water shoes, neoprene socks, crocs, galoshes and extra socks if your going to do water crossing and for additional mileage. Expect muddy conditions. Wear blue tone clothing if possible. Just for the fun of it to match the bluebells.Optional lunch after longer hike. There are three parking lots at Illinois Canyon. Aim for the Illinois Canyon parking lot. If lot is full park at the one before (Salt something) or the one after but meet at Illinois Canyon middle parking lot. This is the farthest east location of the State park. Do not park at lodge or main entrance . Both those areas are over 20 minutes farther.

We’re doing a later than normal start to allow those who are coming for the weekend (there’s another event on Sunday) to drive up in the morning. This is a shorter ride so we should all get finished early to late afternoon. We’ll be doing the always populaire (get it?) route over to Spring Green. NOTE: Must be a member of Randonneurs USA to participate and also sign up via Driftless Rando. From the Driftless Randonneurs website: This is the second event in our 2026 Rouleur Series. As usual, we’ll start the ride a little earlier so you can finish in time for an early drive home. We’ll be doing a Dart Populaire Team Event for this ride. This is a ride with a minimum of 120 Km that must be completed in 8 hours. Briefly, the rules are as follows: Teams consisting of minimum of 3 and no more than 5 riders. Minimum distance of 120 Km. A minimum of 25 Km must be ridden in the last 2 hours. This must be verified by a timed and dated receipt. Three team members must finish together in order to receive credit for the ride. Any team members not finishing with the rest of the team will not receive credit for the ride. The complete rules can be found here. Note that the Dart Populaire counts as a team event for a RUSA cup! Here’s the plan for the day: Assuming there will be a lot of solo riders who are interested in doing this ride, we’ll form teams on the day of the ride. The main ground rule is: everybody rides! So don’t worry if you don’t have a team – come anyway! We’ll form or reform teams as necessary to make sure that everybody rides! Although for longer events e.g., a flèche, it’s customary for riders to form their own teams and develop their own route for this event we’re assuming that most people will be unattached and won’t want to do their own route design. Accordingly, we’ve developed three routes that meet the rules criteria. The Blue River – Spring Green populaire The Boaz to Boscobel populaire The Plain and Fancy populaire Note that the three routes are within .1 of a mile of each other for distance with the Boaz route having about 1,000 feet more climbing. It sounds more complicated than it is – the absolutely most important thing is we’ll ride in small groups and HAVE FUN!" https://driftlessrandos.org/event/driftless

Manic Monday returns in the afternoon until the weather gets consistently warm in the morning. Start your week out with a nicely paced road ride. Routes will vary depending on the wind direction and other weather factors, but will all feature one mid-ride rest stop with bathroom, water refills and probably food. Routes will have plenty of open sections to allow faster riders to go ahead with designated regroup points. I expect this ride will be moderately fast, a bit slower than blue skies, but fast enough to get a decent workout. I intend to make this a weekly ride through October. Look for a detailed route description in this listing by 7 PM Sunday. Pace and miles will gradually increase throughout April as I get stronger road legs.

Ever wondered where you should position yourself in road while riding your bike? What are tricks to help make you be more visible on the roadway while riding your bike? What should I have in my saddle bag when I go out for a ride? These and other questions will be answered during my bike safety presentation to the Arlington Heights Bike Club. All are welcome and I would love to see fellow EBC members in the audience. Let me know if you would like to carpool to the event. Let‘s rock!

Come join us for a shorter option, must be a member of Randonneurs USA as well as sign up via Driftless Randonneurs: https://driftlessrandos.org/event/flat-to-spring-green-100k/ https://rusa.org/ From their website: "Our usual route to Spring Green is reasonably mellow on the way over but includes a couple of testing climbs on the way back – that one over Hustlers Ridge is a toughie! So I decided to try to put together the flattest route I could that takes you to Spring Green while still using quiet roads and being fun to ride and this is the result. Although it does include the climb on CR-C near Taliesin it’s a small price to pay for getting to enjoy riding on CR-C which is one of the better routes Eastward toward Spring Green. Flat you say? Just how flat are we talking about? Well, this is the Driftless, not Florida but at 21 feet/mile you’re not gonna get a whole lot flatter in this neck of the woods. Here are the details: 64.5 miles, 1,403 feet of climbing, ridewithgps route here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/52587149 Note the rather unusual starting point: the Lions Dog Park on Industrial Rd. There’s plenty of parking there and there’s usually a port-a-pottie (though don’t count on it, for some reason they didn’t have one in 2025).

This is a 15 week hill training program organized by the Bombay Bicycle Club in Madison, Wisconsin. You must be a member of Bombay Bicycle Club and also sign up for the BCETS series to participate: https://bombaybicycle.org From the Bombay Bicycle Club webpage: "What is BCETS exactly? It‘s a 15 week BBC sponsored series of early season training rides for hilly endurance events such as Horribly Hilly Hundreds (HHH), Ride Across Wisconsin (RAW), IRONMAN Wisconsin and Dairyland Dare. The program is also for anyone who just wants to challenge themselves to improve their climbing skills, endurance and overall fitness. The rides take you on hilly roads (steep and long!) on many of the HHH roads in the Mt Horeb area." RIDE DESCRIPTION FROM THEIR WEBSITE: Please be ready 15 minutes before the start time for the pre ride briefing This route starts at Mounds View Park, in the village of Blue Mounds. https://maps.app.goo.gl/XjU8G32dNECrcdw77 The route goes to Barneveld via Hwy ID, and then loops back up Mounds Park Rd, down Ryan Rd and out Blue Mounds Trail. Then comes Moen Valley and KP. From KP, the route goes into Cross Plains (mi 26) for food and water, and then back to Garfoot and up Barlow. Mineral Point, Hwy J, Greenwald, Moe, JJ and Vermont Church Rd. At this point the route will back track on KP, Moen Valley Rd and Blue Mound Trail, and back to Hwy F and then Zwettler, Hwy K and to the top of Blue Mound via Mounds Park Rd. Then descend back down to the start location (Mounds View Park). The other food/water option (not shown on the route) is to go into Black Earth via Hwy KP rather than turning on left Moen Valley Rd at mile 46.5. In Black Earth, turn right on Mills St to Veterans Park. Return on Mills St, cross Hwy KP, and continue on Hwy 78 to Hwy JJ to re-join the route. This adds an additional mile to the route. The short route cut-off is about mile 37. Continue on Hwy J to Hwy F and then to Zwettler rather than turning on Greenwald."

EBC has supported Project Mobility for decades, let’s continue that in 2023. Come join Pussanee and I for a great day of riding and seeing the kids and wounded warriors get their bikes. Kim Messina has set up an EBC Team, please join that when registering. We welcome all types of riders to Everybody Rides. We feature a 1.6 & 10 mile trail ride great for the whole family or those new to cycling. The 10 mile will feature a Guided Ride with a leader that leaves at 8:30 am. In addition to the trail ride we have a 29-, 46-and 62-mile road ride for the more experienced rider. The unique feature of Everybody Rides is our routes allow you to add on more miles if you would like while riding. All you have to do is do an extra "loop" or two depending on how many miles you would like to ride! As a reminder, Everybody Rides is a fundraiser for Project Mobility. Project Mobility is a local nonprofit that provides freedom of mobility to children, adults and wounded soldiers with disabilities through adaptive cycling. Riding a bike may sound like such a simple activity but to those with mobility challenges (along with the hefty price tag of an adaptive bike) it makes it nearly impossible for them to enjoy the freedom of mobility without our help. Adaptive bikes provide life changing mobility, strength, self-esteem and the ultimate freedom for children, adults and veterans with disabilities. Cycling restores possibilities to those who are often told by society that their life is about limitations. Please join us on Sunday, May 31st to witness firsthand what we are all about at Project Mobility. Post ride we will have our Party in the Park with our Adaptive Bike Giveaway in addition to unlimited food, beer garden, live music, raffles and so much more!

Let‘s rock!

Three routes, two county tours, one result: a painfully fun, must-do biking experience destined to find its way onto your June calendar for years to come. 2026 marks the 23rd Horribly Hilly Hundreds. Commonly referred to as the "Suffer fest of the Year" and "The Toughest One-Day Challenge Ride in the Midwest" is not to be missed by serious riders anywhere. Since 2003, Horribly Hilly participants have enjoyed a day of riding that results in an awe-inspiring accumulation of 10,000 feet of elevation gain in the Driftless Area of Wisconsin. Growing in popularity each year, although not a lotter anymore the Horribly Hilly registration has reached capacity each year months prior to the event. A second and third route option beyond the original course were added in 2005 and 2011. How hard do you want to push it? Choose between the 100K, 150K, and 200K routes. The day is capped with a meal featuring quality local food and beer. Approximately 1,200 riders test their mettle on southwestern Wisconsin‘s scenic byways each year in the Horribly Hilly. Join the ranks of an inspired community of riders for the premier cycling event in the Badger State and beyond.

The Swedish Days Ride is the premier cycling event in Northern Illinois and the signature event of the Fox Valley Bicycle & Ski Club (FVBSC). Now in its 56th year, the Swedish Days Ride travels the quiet, scenic and relatively flat paved roads of rural Kane, Kendall and DeKalb counties, meandering through cornfields and through shaded thoroughfares. The Swedish Days Ride offers six routes ranging from our Family Ride (12 miles) to the iconic Double Metric Century (133 miles), providing a “just right” distance for cycling families to competitive athletes. This year you can also create your own ride by combining colored loops. The ride is fully supported with one centralized rest stop boasting AC/indoor facilities stocked with nutritional items, onsite morning emergency mechanical support and bicycle supplies, and roaming SAG patrol vehicles. With over 75 helpful volunteers, the Swedish Days Ride provides a superior riding experience to our goal of 1000 guests this year. 12,28,51,73,103 and 133 mile routes.

This is the second year for these shorter options to Eric Peterson’s 200 mile Double Century. For those that want to go long, but are not yet ready for the full 200 miles. All riders will start together in Naperville at 5am and continue together westbound until mile 43 (Century) or mile 53 (200K). At these points the shorter riders will divert south and proceed about 18 miles to reconnect with the eastbound return route of the Double Century. So the majority of the ride is on the Double Century Route, except for an 18 mile section in the middle. We all start and end in the same place. The mass group start at the twilight of dawn is an absolute blast that must be experienced! Eric Peterson’s humble Double Century has grown into a major cycling event with increasing notoriety. Here are the GPS Routes from last year, but subject to updates closer to June 20th. Single Century Option: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/51381712 200K Option: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/51382003

Join the Minnesota Randonneurs on their Zumbro gravel weekend with 2 distance options which include 100k or 200k. Must be member of Randonneurs USA and also sign up via Minnesota Randonneurs: www.rusa.org https://www.mnrando.org 100K: Join us for a fun gravel spin through some great terrain, heading east from Zumbrota, on US-52, through Mazeppa to Plainview on good quality class B gravel, then back into the Zumbro River valley, including a great section along the Zumbro River. 68% of this ride is gravel roads (56 miles/91km). RUSA time limit: 9 hrs + 1:31 hrs gravel allowance 200k:Join us for a great gravel experience through SE Minnesota, from Zumbrota, on US-52, to Weaver and back, with many winding gravel gems along the way. The route is reasonably challenging, with 7500‘ of climbing but also includes many flat miles cruising along the Zumbro and Whitewater Rivers. Most roads are good class B gravel so somewhat wider tires are good (32+mm). From Zumbrota the route travels through Mazeppa to the first control in Plainview, then down the hill into Elba before heading east over to the Mississippi River, using the old US-61 bridge/trail to get to Weaver. A relaxing cruise along the Whitewater River then a good up to get back to Plainview again, at a different c-store with a Subway nearby. From here, the route spends some more miles exploring the Zumbro River valley before a well deserved ice cream stop in Zumbro Falls. From there the route winds through Mazeppa again. Expect lots of shorter hills, a couple or three longer climbs and long stretches with no traffic and opportunities to enjoy the marshs, coulees and hills of this very scenic driftless part of Minnesota. There is very limited parking at the Zumbrota Kwik Trip, but there are nearby residential streets and open lots within a block or two of the start. 70% of this route is on gravel roads (161km, RUSA Time Limit: 13:30 + 2:41 gravel allowance = 16:11)

We have Iowa covered....Now let‘s ride across Michigan! ODRAM: One Day Ride Across Michigan Registration for #ODRAM2026 is now open. Join us as we ride across the state of Michigan on Saturday, August 8, 2026, starting at the Double JJ Resort in Rothbury and finishing at Bay City State Park. Bus & Lodging options will be available. This is a one-direction west-to east ride, so there will be some planning involved in finishing or starting and returning to your car. My plan is park at the end and take the bus ride back to the Saturday morning start. There are designated rest stops along the route but no official SAG service, so a degree of self-sufficiency is useful here. Registration is required at the link provided. Mark your calendar for Saturday, August 8, 2026. We will follow the traditional 150ish mile ODRAM route, from Double JJ Ranch in Rothbury Michigan, across the state to Bay City State Recreation Area. Proceeds from ODRAM will again benefit the Breakthrough T1D™ Ride (formerly JDRF) Program All riders are treated to hot buffet breakfast, lunch near the 80 mile mark, a celebration cookout dinner at the finish and 2 refreshment stations (1 before and 1 after lunch). Medals will be awarded at the finish line. There is no SAG support. ODRAM is a charity ride. The proceeds from the ride are donated to Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF), the leading private funder for type 1 diabetes research. It‘s not mandatory, but if you feel inclined to support the cause, you can donate and follow my progress here: https://www.Pledgereg.com/541783

Prepare for an unforgettable cycling adventure in the heart of the Midwest. Whether you‘re a seasoned gravel grinder or a casual rider seeking scenic thrills, our event promises an exhilarating experience for all. This is 3rd year of the event. Details: https://oldfashionedgravel.com Registration opens 1/15/26 at 12:00 pm and will sell out quickly, capped riders: https://www.bikereg.com/old-fashion From their website: "We are fortunate enough to have some of the best gravel riding in the Midwest and have put together four routes to show off the local terrain. As with all of our rides, we offer a little bit of everything and welcome EVERYONE from novice riders to the most seasoned racers. The focus of the ride is to bring like-minded individuals together for a great ride, but we will have professional timing so if you want to race we will have you covered too! Routes that will satisfy all of your gravely desires, and a post-ride gathering with food, drink, and hangs with new friends. We will introduce an awesome new venue in Hokah Minnesota, a rustic farm nestled in a scenic coulee. While the ride is about riding with other rad people like yourself, rest assured a portion of your entry fee will go to a local entity that could use a little financial help. If we can have a super fun time while helping others, that is what will make this a successful event. We will also be using local businesses to feed and hydrate us. Hokah is a super cool little town, and we would love to help keep our money local. All routes will leave and finish at the farm. The gravel is approximately two miles from the start line, and one mile of that is a paved climb, once you are on the ridge, the dust shall start flying! All routes will descend this paved section upon return to the finish line."
