We will ride 66-68 miles to Morris Illinois. We will start from Whole Foods parking lot in Elmhurst and ride thru Clarendon Hills, Lockport, Joliet, and Channahon along Centennial & I & M Canal trails. We will take short breaks at Waterfall Glen (MP 19), in Lockport ( MP 30), in Joliet (MP 38) for a lunch break at Panera Bread, and at McKinley Woods (MP 54). For those riders who prefer a shorter ride, can join me in-route at Waterfall Glen (MP 19) or in Lockport, or at the Ronald D Lehman Community Park (MP 46). We will stay in a hotel in Morris. There will be a group dinner in Morris. After next morning’s breakfast we will ride back. The route is a combination of paved roads and trails, and limestone scree trails. Any type of touring bike with at least 28mm tires or a mountain or fat tire bike are recommended. Please, note overnight parking is not allowed at the Waterfall Glen. The overnight street parking is available in Lockport. However, you must call the Lockport Police Department (815 838 2131 Commander Miller) to secure the parking. Come and ride the Spring Green Populaire with the Driftless Randonneurs in the southwestern region of Wisconsin. This ride starts later to allow people to travel to the area the morning of the ride. Please be ready in the back of the parking lot promptly at 9:45 am for pre-ride announcements. Must be a member of Randonneurs USA and also sign up via Driftless Randonneurs website to participate. Allow 2 days for new member registration to process in Randonneurs USA. Come and ride 2 days in a row or 1 of 2 days in the scenic Driftless region of Wisconsin. From the website: "This is the first outing in our Rouleur Series. We’re doing a later than normal start to allow those who are coming for the weekend (there’s another event on Sunday) to drive up in the morning. This is a shorter ride so we should all get finished early to late afternoon. We’ll be doing the always populaire (get it?) route over to Spring Green. We’ve made Spring Green an open control so those who are so inclined can stop at the Spring Green General Store for lunch and of course there are always the alternatives of Culver’s or the Shell station that’s the official control.
