*** Look here for specific details on this week‘s Hustle. ***
Come join our highly-social, evening, trail ride that has been a Spring, Summer and Fall tradition since August, 2015, always rolling at the speed-of-fun. :-)
We ride as a team and enthusiastically encourage communication, conversation and laughter - as long as riders prescribe to safe practices such as: communicating about obstacles and maintaining gaps that are appropriate for the speed, terrain and weather conditions.
Your bike must have headlights and tail lights. Avoid using retina-burning, overly-bright and strobing lights since we ride trails as a pack and are usually separated from car and truck traffic. We try to courteously douse headlights when passing pedestrians and fellow riders as we ride into growing darkness.
History has shown that this ride can be done with most any kind of bike, but sometimes conditions can make it tough for narrower tires. You be the judge.
No rider will ever be left behind. We have several bona fide EBC Ride Leaders attending this ride for extra safety. ...But you must make sure that your bike is ready and you are in athletic condition for this distance and pace. Note that 10-12 mph on a trail may take the same effort as 13-16 mph on a road; ...and riding a heavy, fat or mountain bike requires yet additional effort.
Our routes vary from one week to the next. Look for route information on our e-mail list server each week before the ride. Let‘s rock!

Park in the lot immediately to the right at the top of the hill in Blue Mound State Park.
It Takes A Lot to Laugh has several of the classic HHH hills including Blue Mounds Trail, Barlow, Zwettler, and the final climb to the top of Blue Mound. The second loop goes up Garfoot rather than Barlow. You can shorten this route to 39 miles by eliminating the second eastern loop (continue on Hwy F to Zwettler rather than climbing Mounds View Trail a second time).
The only food and water is in Cross Plains at the Kwik Trip. This requires a short out and back off the route. This is at mile 37.5 on the long route, during the second loop. Or at mile 16 of the first loop."

Elkader City Park

Elkader, IA 52043
Sat, Apr 26, 2025 at 8:00 AM
A challenging gravel event in Elkader, Iowa with 2 distance options, 45 and 100 miles. 90-95% of each course is gravel with a few miles of level B, blacktop and bike trail included. There are hills in this area of the state, some rollers but a lot of steep semi-short climbs. The estimated average for climbing is 100 feet per mile.
Gear Recommendations ?
Recommended tire size is obviously different depending on rider experience but 32MM width or larger is best. There are little to no MMR roads on the course so you do not need to plan on miles of mud. Gearing is usually the biggest issue riders run into given the steepness of the climbs so bring a wide gearing range if you don‘t plan on making it a duathlon. The race ends on a 1/2 mile gavel track (Cayton County Velodrome) where racers will do one full lap where they cross the finish line the final time. All Race Distances do a lap at the end of the race.

Proceeds are donated to the local EMS crew in Clayton County, Iowa.

Let‘s rock!

Fri, May 30, 2025 at 8:00 AM
Must be member of Randonneurs USA and sign up via Driftless Randonneurs website. Details below via Driftless Randonneurs website:
"The first ever flèche in the Driftless!
Here’s your opportunity to be a route designer! The flèche is a team event made up of no fewer than 3 but no more than 5 bikes (note that a tandem counts as a single bike) with at least 3 finishers from the team in order to get credit. A brief overview of the rules:
Teams ride for 24 hours.
Each team must ride a minimum of 360 km with no more than 2 hours stopped in a single location.
Teams develop their own route which arrives at the designated finish location no later than 24 hours after the official brevet start.
A minimum of 25 km must be ridden in the last two hours of the event.
Teams must present documentation (receipt, time stamped photo showing the location) as proof they rode at least 25 km in the last two hours.
Complete rules are here: https://rusa.org/pages/flecherules
Our finish location is Vintage Brewing, 600 Water St, Sauk City.
Of course we’ll have a post ride celebration at Vintage Brewing to talk about our rides and how great we are!
We’ll meet for breakfast on Sunday at the Spring Green General Store, 137 South Albany St, Spring Green. We’ll work out a time later. Note that the General Store is roughly a 25 minute drive from Sauk City.
Teams should identify a team captain who will be responsible for providing proof of passage for the team.
Each team must develop its own route. Traditionally, a flèche route is point-to-point but loop routes are also acceptable if desired to simplify logistics.
Routes must be submitted to RBA, Greg Smith, no later than 30 days prior to the event – no exceptions!

Horribly Hilly Hundreds! From the event website:
"Three routes, two county tours, one result: a painfully fun, must-do biking experience destined to find its way onto your June calendar for years to come.
2025 marks the 22nd Horribly Hilly Hundreds. Commonly referred to as the "Suffer fest of the Year" and "The Toughest One-Day Challenge Ride in the Midwest" is not to be missed by serious riders anywhere.
Since 2003, Horribly Hilly participants have enjoyed a day of riding that results in an awe-inspiring accumulation of 10,000 feet of elevation gain in the Driftless Area of Wisconsin. Growing in popularity each year, although not a lotter anymore the Horribly Hilly registration has reached capacity each year months prior to the event. A second and third route option beyond the original course were added in 2005 and 2011. How hard do you want to push it? Choose between the 100K, 150K, and 200K routes. The day is capped with a meal featuring quality local food and beer.
Approximately 1,200 riders test their mettle on southwestern Wisconsin‘s scenic byways each year in the Horribly Hilly. Join the ranks of an inspired community of riders for the premier cycling event in the Badger State and beyond."
I will be doing the 200k option and hope to hold 13mph rolling average, starting at the mass start at 6:45am or close to said time.
If you are participating in this event but dont see me at the ride start, you can email me at ctmay@protonmail.com with your route completion proof.
You must sign up for this ride! You can do so at: https://www.bikesignup.com/Race/WI/BlueMounds/HorribleHillyHundreds

Join us for our annual triple B or cloverleaf century ride out of Madison Meadows. We will first do the early BUSSE route (plus a few miles as time allows) and then meet up with the BLUE Skies Ride and finish with the early BIRD route as needed to get to 100 miles. BOB will be co-leading with his BESTIE (me, I needed a B word :)). I will bring BEST crumb cake and BROWNIES for our breaks, and we will go to BILLY BRICKS pizza in Lombard on St. Charles after the ride for those who have time.
Hoping to average 17+ but will depend on weather, etc. Feel free to join for 1, 2 or all 3 legs of this ride.
Please let me know no later (but hopefully sooner) than the night before if you are planning to join.
Feel free to reach out with any questions.
Note the 5 am sharp start time to get out before it gets too hot!

From the event website:
"Old Fashioned Gravel
We are fortunate enough to have some of the best gravel riding in the Midwest and have put together four routes to show off the local terrain. As with all of our rides, we offer a little bit of everything and welcome EVERYONE from novice riders to the most seasoned racers. The focus of the ride is to bring like-minded individuals together for a great ride, but we will have professional timing so if you want to race we will have you covered too! Routes that will satisfy all of your gravely desires, and a post-ride gathering with food, drink, and hangs with new friends.
We will introduce an awesome new venue in Hokah Minnesota, a rustic farm nestled in a scenic coulee. While the ride is about riding with other rad people like yourself, rest assured a portion of your entry fee will go to a local entity that could use a little financial help. If we can have a super fun time while helping others, that is what will make this a successful event. We will also be using local businesses to feed and hydrate us. Hokah is a super cool little town, and we would love to help keep our money local.
All routes will leave and finish at the farm. The gravel is approximately two miles from the start line, and one mile of that is a paved climb, once you are on the ridge, the dust shall start flying! All routes will descend this paved section upon return to the finish line."
