From IN Welcome center to Munster Shererville and Crown Point via the Pennsy Greenway Trail to meet the Erie Lackawanna Trail to SIP Coffee Crown Point and return on the ELT. This ride is for E-BIKES and TRIKES others only by special request. RSVP IN Welcome Ctr on central daylight time.

NNW wind at 16 mph influenced me to change my mind. Rather than riding to Burr Ridge we did a modified Tuesday route to and from Panera on Showplace.

Nice and easy trail ride to Scorched Earth Brewery in Algonquin with a second stop at Duke’s Blues-N-BBQ which is literally right on the trail and has fabulous BBQ. The North section of the Fox River Trail is beautiful. Slower riders and electric bikes are most welcome. Please note that the Brewery does not take Cash. Credit Cards only. Trail is paved so any bike is fine, we will be on our road Tandem. As always on these Bike and Brew rides, the first beer for riders is on us. If don’t drink beer, then the first soft drink is on us. The DCC is one of the most beautiful invitational rides in the midwest crisscrossing the Door County peninsula and featuring spectacular views of Green Bay and Lake Michigan. I plan to ride the century route, leaving around 7 AM. I‘ll submit names for all EBC riders. Contact me ahead of time if you want to coordinate riding together or afterwards with participation information. If there is interest, I am happy to coordinate pre-ride gathering on Saturday evening. Registration does sell out, so I recommend registering early. Fees increase on August 1st.

Cap Sauers is the largest road-less tract of land in Cook County. The hike will start at a different location than last weeks. One the trails we will walk is Visitation Esker and it runs along the top of the Ridge-line which slopes down 50 feet on each side. The Esker Trail and Cap Sauers are Cook County gems and have been written about many times in hiking Publications. This is 5 to 6 mile out and back and loops. It‘s is truly a beautiful remote area to Hike right here at Home. Twisting through the beautiful wooded bluffs, ravines, wetlands and prairie openings is what makes Cap Sauers a great escape into nature. Visitation Esker is one of the best-defined examples of this glacial feature in the State. Eskers are narrow, long, winding hills that were deposited by streams underneath the glaciers and were formed by glacial melt-water. This esker—a ridge that was actually formed by a river that once ran in or on a glacier here at Cap Sauers Holdings. This area is remote with few people unlike Palos and The Swallow Cliff Stair area which can be packed. The Land Manager made a conscious choice not to have any info centers or even trail signs on the narrow footpaths that wind through the prairies, savannahs, sedge meadows, wetlands, stunning old growth Oak forests and even cattail marshes. Please note that this is a quiet hike and everyone should use their soft voices and try to limit conversation to the flora and fauna we are passing through. I will send an email with my Silent Sports Article on the magic of silence in quiet places. To avoid crowds we meet at the Sagawau Environmental Learning Center and carpool 2 minutes to a hidden entrance that has just enough room for a couple of cars. Please register. Cicada eggs have led to an incredible number of invisible Oak leaf Itch Mites that leave you with very painful itching for days. Poison Ivy and Oak are abundant as well so tall hiking boots, long pants and shirts are required and insect repellent is a good idea.

Day 2: Walk from Settignano to Fiesole delightful trails through an idyllic Tuscan landscape of cypress trees, olive groves, Renaissance villas and with panoramic views over the city of Florence below. Stroll through the charming 7th century town of Fiesole and tour its Etruscan ruins, Roman amphitheatre and Franciscan monastery.

Day 3: A choice of walks in Greve in Chianti A circular walk starting from the attractive main square of Greve in Chianti, through the picture-perfect Chianti Classico area and passing by the Villa Calcinaia and numerous vineyards with “aziende agricole” (farms) where the prestigious Chianti wine is produced.

Day 4: Panzano loop walk A beautiful looped walk beginning in the village of Panzano. Take some time to explore the quaint medieval streets of this historic town before beginning your walk through the surrounding hills. This classic Chianti trail alternates forests with vineyards, with the added opportunity to discover ancient Roman farmsteads as you go.

Come join us for a Hump Day Hustle ride in Naperville with not a lot of Hustle!! This is a "No Drop" "Social Ride". The ride will be a little different than the Hump Day Hustle leaving out of Villa Park since the main break will be at the end of the ride and the mileage is a little less. We will leave from Pioneer Park, (where there is parking and restroom facilities), take the river path through Knoch Knoll, (restroom break if needed), to Whalen Lake and around, (again restroom break if needed), and then head back the way we came to Pioneer Park for some fellowship at the picnic tables at the end of the ride. Please feel free to bring the beverage or snack of your choice. I have taken this route on several occasions but will be making slight changes throughout the rest of the year to accommodate as many riders as possible. Also, the days are getting shorter so having lights over the next couple of weeks will become mandatory.

This is a highly social, evening ride that has been a Spring, Summer and Fall tradition since August, 2015, always rolling at the speed-of-fun. :-) We ride as a team and enthusiastically encourage communication, conversation and laughter, as long as riders prescribe to safe practices such as: communicating about obstacles; and maintaining gaps that are appropriate for the speed, terrain and weather conditions. Your bike must have headlights and tail lights. Avoid using retina-burning, overly-bright and strobing lights since we ride trails as a tight pack and are usually separated from car and truck traffic. We try to courteously douse headlights when passing pedestrians and fellow riders as we ride into growing darkness. This ride is often best suited for mountain or fat-tire bikes when riding our crushed limestone routes, but also, quite often the weather and trail conditions make this event viable for most any type of bike. No rider will ever be left behind. We have several bona fide EBC Ride Leaders attending this ride for extra safety. Having said that, please don‘t show up if your bike is not ready or you are not in athletic condition for this distance and pace. Note that 10-12 mph on a trail may take the same effort as 13-16 mph on a road; ...and riding a heavy, fat or mountain bike requires yet additional effort. Our routes vary from one week to the next. Day 5: Monte San Michele to Radda in Chianti After breakfast, a short car transfer takes you to the highest of the Chianti hills, Monte San Michele. From Badiaccia you descend through a forested valley of century old chestnut trees and continue towards the stunning medieval hamlet of Volpaia, situated amongst vineyards and castles. Stop in for a glass of red at a fine Enoteca (wine shop), before continuing on to the medieval walled town of Radda in Chianti.

Join me for a road ride from Lombard to St. Charles, which will feature a newly-resurfaced Crescent Boulevard for your sprinting pleasure. Our midpoint rest stop will be at Panera in St. Charles. I expect to maintain the upper end of the posted rolling speed, with optional sprints. I expect to do the Munger Loop (Powis->Stearns->Munger->Smith), so anticipate total mileage closer to 50 miles. Others are always free to bypass or shorten the loop. We will face some hills, rollers, and open road with narrow shoulders, so a road bike and some road riding experience is highly recommended. Day 6: Radda in Chianti circular walk Begin the day with a scenic walk around the historic and pretty centre of Radda in Chianti. Wander among the narrow alleyways and take in the evocative walled gardens. As you head out of town through the vineyard covered slopes stop to treat yourself to a glass of Chianti Gallo Nero at one of the celebrated local vineyards.

A half-century ride through Chicago and near north suburbs to the original Hackney’s location on Harms Road in Glenview. The route features a mix of neighborhoods, city streets and paved trails. One stop each way in addition to lunch. Hackney’s is a north suburb institution. This is the original location opened in 1939 featuring great food and outdoor dining next to Harms Woods along the North Branch Bike Trail. Entrees range from $14 to $20. Expect to be back in Elmhurst around 3:30 PM. I will stick with the advertised 14-16 MPH pace. This is a conversation-paced ride, not a fast ride!

Day 7: Travel to Siena After breakfast a prearranged private transfer takes you to your final destination, the historic city of Siena. One of Europe’s great medieval cities, Siena is famous for its biannual “Palio” horse race, held in the most beautiful shell-shaped square in Europe: The Piazza del Campo. Wander the narrow streets and immerse yourself in the history of this perfectly preserved jewel of Italy.

Come join us for a Hump Day Hustle ride in Naperville with not a lot of Hustle!! This is a "No Drop" "Social Ride". The ride will be a little different than the Hump Day Hustle leaving out of Villa Park since the main break will be at the end of the ride and the mileage is a little less. We will leave from Pioneer Park, (where there is parking and restroom facilities), take the river path through Knoch Knoll, (restroom break if needed), to Whalen Lake and around, (again restroom break if needed), and then head back the way we came to Pioneer Park for some fellowship at the picnic tables at the end of the ride. Please feel free to bring the beverage or snack of your choice. I have taken this route on several occasions but will be making slight changes throughout the rest of the year to accommodate as many riders as possible. Also, the days are getting shorter so having lights over the next couple of weeks will become mandatory. This will be the last Naperville Hump-Day No Hussle for this Year

This is a highly social, evening ride that has been a Spring, Summer and Fall tradition since August, 2015, always rolling at the speed-of-fun. :-) We ride as a team and enthusiastically encourage communication, conversation and laughter, as long as riders prescribe to safe practices such as: communicating about obstacles; and maintaining gaps that are appropriate for the speed, terrain and weather conditions. Your bike must have headlights and tail lights. Avoid using retina-burning, overly-bright and strobing lights since we ride trails as a tight pack and are usually separated from car and truck traffic. We try to courteously douse headlights when passing pedestrians and fellow riders as we ride into growing darkness. This ride is often best suited for mountain or fat-tire bikes when riding our crushed limestone routes, but also, quite often the weather and trail conditions make this event viable for most any type of bike. No rider will ever be left behind. We have several bona fide EBC Ride Leaders attending this ride for extra safety. Having said that, please don‘t show up if your bike is not ready or you are not in athletic condition for this distance and pace. Note that 10-12 mph on a trail may take the same effort as 13-16 mph on a road; ...and riding a heavy, fat or mountain bike requires yet additional effort. Our routes vary from one week to the next. This is a route that gives a taste of almost everything the state of Wisconsin has to offer- Milwuakee City riding, Suburban paved Rail-to-Trails, mile long false flats, small lake towns, farm fields, and a few rated climbs! This ride is usually one of the MSOE Rider‘s first century, so you get support a young cyclist on their cycling journey! The Current route is version "‘24E". We will meet at 1:00 pm EASTERN TIME (12:00 pm Central time) at the Dewey Cannon Bicycle Museum. We will ride the back roads for about 32 miles. Afterwards we will enjoy the ice cream social which is part of the Apple Cider Century ride. You will need to register for the Sunday ride in order to participate in the ice cream social.

Ride time is sunrise so I will be at the start then for you to sign the ride sheet. If I miss you at the start, please text me with your milage at the end of the ride. You may choose the flat 15/25-mile routes or the rolling hills of the 50/75-mile routes, if you’re not ready for a Century, at a speed you are comfortable with. Given it will be dark I‘m still figuring out the order of the ride but some combo of Busse woods, Blue Skies and Elmhurst Early bird to get 100 miles. I would like to avoid doing Busse in the dark. I will bring crumb cake and cookies for our breaks, and we will go to BILLY BRICKS pizza in Lombard on St. Charles after the ride for those who have time. In June when we did this ride, we averaged 17.3 MPH so will be aiming for around then as well (or higher :)). Hopefully, we will get a little support when we join the blue skies ride. Hike the entire Grayson Highlands portion on the AT including fat man squeeze, Thomas Knob Shelter and lots and lots of wild ponies. Guaranteed plenty of wild pony encounters.
