Everybody welcome. You can ride or meet us at 2 locations if you are not riding.
EVERYONE MUST REGISTER.

The 5th annual International Women’s Day Together We Ride begins...a bike ride to recognize and celebrate the achievements, persistence and future of women and girls all over the US/world as we celebrate the 113th anniversary of International Women’s Day. We will also welcome + celebrate Women’s History Month. WEAR PURPLE and/or decorate your bike or both!

PLAN: We will Slow Roll for INCLUSION and EQUITY with the start/finish at My Half of the Sky (women’s owned ethical shop) in downtown Wheaton and ride to several significant sites in Wheaton, including Blanchard Hall Underground Railroad Site at Wheaton College for a 30 minute stop. Here we will meet and hear from Glennette Turner Tilley, a guest speaker and local resident of Wheaton. Afterwards we will ride for a few more miles and then head back to My Half of the Sky to share some tea/coffee and celebrate the significance of this day.

Who is Glennette Turner Tilley? She is a former teacher and a historian. Much of her research efforts are on the Underground Railroad. Her first book, The Underground Railroad in DuPage County, Illinois, was published in 1978, and since then she has continued to write and conduct research. She has published The Underground Railroad in Illinois. Turner has also written collections of biographies of notable African Americans, and she serves as an advisor to the National Park Service, where she helps plan programs for the national historic Underground Railroad trail. Turner lectures widely on the history of the Underground Railroad, and she has been honored numerous times both as an educator and historian. She is the recipient of the Studs Terkel Humanities Award, the Alice Browning Award from the International Black Writers Conference, and she is a member of numerous historical organizations.
