Bikepacking Weekend-Lake Geneva, Day 1 of 2 / 36-54-76 mi @ 12-14 mph / Pravin Patel

We will ride to Lake Geneva, WI from Elmhurst, camp overnight at the Big Foot Beach State Park and ride back to Elmhurst Sunday. This is a self contained bikepacking trip carrying all the necessary gear; tent, sleeping bags, clothes, snacks, drinks etc and bike essentials on our bikes. The route has limestone scree and paved trails and ten miles of paved roads. A fat tire, a mountain bike or a trail bike which can accommodate your handlebar and seat bags and with minimum 32mm tires is most suitable. We will take at least 3-4 snacks/drinks breaks along the way. I plan to maintain a steady pace of 12-14 mph pace and will have route cue sheets for each rider. We will have a group dinner Saturday evening and camp breakfast Sunday morning. Please, plan to pack a dehydrated breakfast, snacks and nuts for your need.

There are three mileage options of 76, 54 and 36 miles starting from Elmhurst, Elgin and Crystal Lake respectively. If you are planning to park overnight at the Whole Foods in Elmhurst, call David Ortiz, the property manager, at 847562.4115 with your car and contact info. Overnight public/city parking for 72 hours is available in Elgin downtown at 226 N Grove Avenue for those planning to ride 54 miles. We should be arriving at the Elgin meeting spot between 9:30AM-9:45AM.

For those planning to ride 36 miles, free parking is available at the Sage YMCA in Crystal Lake. You must call, (815) 459-4455, ahead and provide your car info to the YMCA. The estimated arrival time at the Panera Bread in Crystal Lake, our meeting spot, is 11:45-12:00 noon. The Panera Bread is located at the NE corner of the Rte 14/Pingree Road. Please park at the Sage YMCA and ride to the Panera Bread.

You may choose to stay at a nearby hotel or a B& B and join the riders for the group dinner. The group dinner is at 6:30PM.

I have reserved four camping sites which can accommodate eight tents. There is minimal camping fee. Please let me kno
