Bluebell Hike/1-8 miles at 2.5-3.0mph/Dawn Maxwell
About this event
The Bluebells are at their spectacular peak bloom at Starved Rock Illinois Canyon. I’ve been checking on them all month. Not going to be around much longer and weekends are too crowded. Water levels high .Family friendly first mile or two. For children and grandchildren are welcome . First two miles will be ant slow easy picturesque taking pace. After the first two miles of the actual bluebell area we will be doing additionalat least 6 miles at faster pace. Need water shoes, neoprene socks, crocs, galoshes and extra socks if your going to do water crossing and for additional mileage. Expect muddy conditions. Wear blue tone clothing if possible. Just for the fun of it to match the bluebells.Optional lunch after longer hike. There are three parking lots at Illinois Canyon. Aim for the Illinois Canyon parking lot. If lot is full park at the one before (Salt something) or the one after but meet at Illinois Canyon middle parking lot. This is the farthest east location of the State park. Do not park at lodge or main entrance . Both those areas are over 20 minutes farther.
