Driftless 100 Gravel / 45-100 miles @ your pace / Dawn Piech
About this event
A challenging gravel event in Elkader, Iowa with 2 distance options, 45 and 100 miles. 90-95% of each course is gravel with a few miles of level B, blacktop and bike trail included. There are hills in this area of the state, some rollers but a lot of steep semi-short climbs. The estimated average for climbing is 100 feet per mile.
Gear Recommendations ?
Recommended tire size is obviously different depending on rider experience but 32MM width or larger is best. There are little to no MMR roads on the course so you do not need to plan on miles of mud. Gearing is usually the biggest issue riders run into given the steepness of the climbs so bring a wide gearing range if you don't plan on making it a duathlon. The race ends on a 1/2 mile gavel track (Cayton County Velodrome) where racers will do one full lap where they cross the finish line the final time. All Race Distances do a lap at the end of the race.
